Who is Sakıp Sabancı?

Sakıp Sabancı was a very important Turkish business tycoon. He was born in Kayseri, in 1953. In 1948, he worked in his father’s business. He didn’t complete high school because of health problems. In 1957, he got married to Türkan Sabancı. They had two daughters and one son. Ten years later, he took over the family business and established Sabancı Holding A.Ş with his brothers in 1967. He became the first chairman of the company. After he wrote his first book, “This is My Life” in 1985, he wrote twelve more books until he died. He became the chairman of TUSİAD in 1986. In 1999, he established Sabancı University. It is one of the best universities in Turkey. During his life, he received awards from various national and international institutions. For example, he got the “Businessman of the year award” in 1999. Three years later, he opened Sakıp Sabancı Museum. There are a lot of Ottoman and Turkish paintings and statues in the museum. He died of kidney cancer on April 10, 2004. All in all, Sakıp Sabancı was a homorous and generous man.
